How Natural Landscaping Increases Real Estate Value

Thursday, July 30th, 2009
Boris C. asked:

Landscaping is one of the most cost-effective tools for improving and sustaining the quality of life, whether in the city, the suburbs, or the country, however it is usually a fairly big task, consuming much time and energy. By itself it implies the physical change of outdoors to serve the needs of people by planting, altering the contours of the ground, and building structures and amenities such as pedestrian ways, paths and picnic areas. This activity is one of the few improvements that adds more value to real estate than it costs to install. People often associate landscaping with garden apartments that boast acres of land and rolling hills decorated with towering trees, bountiful flower gardens and lush courtyards.

If you haven’t heard about natural landscaping, then it is a relatively new term that is also called native gardening. Natural landscaping implies in itself the use of plants, including groundcover, grass, trees and schrubs which are endemic to the geographical area in which the garden is located. It is an opportunity to re-establish diverse native plants, thereby inviting the birds and butterflies back home. Natural landscaping is good for your health and it is an aesthetically exciting, ever-changing tapestry of hardy, primarily native plantings well adapted to the local climate and soil.

Philosophers in the 17th century debated whether visual beauty was a necessary goal of landscaping. A good landscaper understands the elements of nature and construction, and blends them accordingly. Landscaping refers to any activity that modifies the visible features of an area of land, including but not limited to: living elements, such as flora or fauna or what is commonly referred to as gardening – the art and craft of growing plants with a goal of creating a beautiful environment within the landscape.

Whatever you may call it: beneficial landscaping, environmentally friendly landscaping or sustainable landscaping, is a way of designing and maintaining beautiful yards, gardens, and larger landscapes to:

- Save time and money with lower maintenance

- Reduce harm to the environment

- Have healthier places to work and play

Landscaping is art and science, and requires good observation and design skills. In do-it-yourself landscaping are many variables such as your personal design tastes, the climate of your region, what you want to do with your yard, budget and skills.

If you didn’t think about it, landscaping is one of the most cost-effective ways to customize a home to meet your needs and tastes. If done well, one receives the added benefits of beauty and increased real estate values. Landscaping can increase the value of your home while making your surroundings more attractive and enjoyable.

While landscaping can reduce direct sun from striking and heating up building surfaces it is a natural and beautiful way to keep your home cool in summer and reduce your energy bills. The tough part about landscaping is coming up with unique landscaping ideas and landscaping designs, but looking at the designs of the other houses in your neighbourhood can make it easier for you.

Inching Modern Living With Fantastic Landscaping Designs

Andrew Beene asked:

“Having a simple yet unique landscape design can significantly improve the appearance of your place. Through landscaping, you manage to personalize your home and incorporate into it elements that spell your lifestyle, character and interests. More so, your home or commercial establishment’s fascinating landscape helps attain for it a degree of dominance in the area you’re situated. In Massachusetts, concrete pavers create chic landscaping designs for homes and business establishments that contribute to the beauty of the state.

Landscaping is a combination of art and science. Your landscape design should ideally complement the colors and materials making up the structure of your property. Gardening is the most important facet of landscaping for plants and flowers enhance the look of one’s place.

Before getting down to landscaping, study the accessibility of your garden space and assess which features will best work for it.

Though landscaping makes a difference to an area, it doesn’t always guarantee to improve its appearance. Carelessness or the inclusion of an inappropriate detail in a hardscape design in a Massachusetts home can result in an eyesore instead of an impressive view.

To avoid committing landscaping mistakes, it would be best to hire a pro in the said field. You’ll find countless landscape contractors in Massachusetts who are equipped with the right tools essential in the production or creation of an astounding landscape design.

If you have a big landscaping design, it is best to seek advice from a professional landscaping contractor. There are also garden and lawn centers where you can acquire information and knowledge about excellent landscaping ideas. Professional home improvement centers usually have experienced sales personnel who have tried their hands in different landscaping methods. Before you spend money on landscaping, be sure to get the proper guidance from a trusted landscaping source.

An organized and properly designed landscape can be a good source of enjoyment for the entire family. It enhances a community picture and increases the resale value of a certain property. Working on a landscape design is far more tedious than planting trees, shrubs and other plants for that matter. It is considered an art that deals with aesthetic arrangement or organization of outdoor space for human satisfaction and enjoyment.

Landscaping companies offer a wide range of formal and informal garden landscaping designs in Massachusetts. Formal landscaping includes geometric plans and straight line designs that are usually well planned so you achieve a look that is professional by nature. Informal landscaping, on the other hand, contains curved lines and is ideal for small gardens. An informal andscaping plan features random groups of plants and flowers.

Oriental landscaping is useful in large gardening projects for it welcomes the use of different accessories such as water, rocks, potted plans and evergreens. Meanwhile, the woodland style is a complex alternative to landscaping. It perfectly suits backyard designing with an artificial waterfall and woodland plants.”

The Art of Composing a Landscape

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009
Steven Cancel asked:

The art of composing a landscape is a subjective act. This process is an expression of self, and there is no right way or wrong way to do it. However, there are a few things that you may need to take into consideration to maximize your landscape.

The first thing to take into account is the focal point. When completed, a viewer needs to be drawn to a certain area. The remaining portion of the landscape is the support for this focal point. When considering the place of attention, size is an important factor. If too small, the viewer will get lost in the landscape and will lose interest because they cannot find the subject of the landscape. On the other hand, if the focus is too large, the landscape will come across as overwhelming.

The next step in setting up a good landscape is framing. Surrounding the focal point of the landscape will allow the viewer to realize the subject and further their attention in the setting.

A third point that will contribute to the effectiveness of the landscape is color. Contrasting colors will help the scenery stand out. The focus of the landscape should be a dissimilar color than the rest of the piece. This is because the center will stand out in the viewers eye, and catch their attention.

However, the underlining factor in preparing a successful landscape is the time and preparation that you put into building the landscape. Putting time into designating the size and layout of the landscape will contribute to the success of the landscape. In addition, with the size and layout of the piece designated, you can then attribute costs. A good landscape does not require high costs, but rather effective planning. If cost is an issue, you have some alternatives. Water fountains are a nice accent to the landscape and do not come at an expensive cost. Another popular alternative in landscaping is the placement of rocks.

Again, there is no right or wrong way when landscaping. There are things that you should do to maximize the landscape. This can be done with or without a strict budget. Giving yourself the time to prepare and layout the piece will allow you to make best use of your property. In addition, taking the points listed above and applying them to you project will not make your landscape good, but it will make it effective.

Outdoor Landscape Lights Add Accent to Commercial Exteriors

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009
Kimberly Quang asked:

Outdoor lights should accent the individual features of commercial landscapes in a balanced sense of proportion to the general surroundings. However, creating a sense of strong individuation without unraveling the property’s entire sense of aesthetic of the property can be a challenge-one that normally requires a great deal of careful planning and photometric analysis. You must first see the artistry of the entire landscape itself, and then work backward to find the individuating points that constitute the entirety of the scene. This often requires cross training lighting outdoor lighting technicians in landscaping methodology, or even working in partnership with a landscape lighting company.

It is essential to pay close attention to individual forms in the landscape such as statues, fountains, ponds, waterfalls, and flower beds unique, individual works of art; then take a second and third look from another perspective to find the relationships between these seemingly separate elements. Closer examination should reveal an interconnected unity emerge out of the apparently random placement of certain objects. Landscaping contractors are masters of blending the individual with the universal in this fashion. Outdoor lighting in commercial landscape lights should compliment this apparent paradox and enhance both aspects of the scene simultaneously.

The most efficient way to go about this is to use a combination of high voltage and low voltage landscape lights to create four layers of illumination. The trick here is to invert the assumption that most people would make about outdoor landscape lights. Most would assume that high voltage lights be used to provide an overall “blanket” of bright, general lighting that allows you to see everything clearly. Accent lights, according to this line of reasoning, should be used for adding color or special lighting effects. This actually puts too much light into the landscape and tends to make outdoor structures, decorative elements, and fine art appears somewhat two dimensional.

This is because any object, (including the outdoor landscape as a comprehensive unity) requires a combination of light and shadow to look truly “three dimensional.” Low voltage general lighting is much better suited for this. Low profile, low-voltage outdoor lights can be installed in a variety of unique places throughout the landscape; such as hidden places in trees and bushes. This creates the illusion of bioluminosity, and produces a remarkable interplay of light and shadow on the ground. Waterfalls and ponds can be lit with up lights or led lights underneath the water itself. This will often produce a spectrum effect that creates mini-rainbows above the fountain or waterfall.

High-voltage outdoor landscape lights can then be added to provide additional layers of focused light around larger ornamental structures, earthworks, art, and waterworks. This draws the eye toward the object for emphasis without overpowering the general lighting theme of the property. With the right combination of high-voltage and low-voltage outdoor landscape lighting fixtures, you can combine as many as four layers of light. Not only will this better unify the many elements of the landscape into a harmonious unity, but it will also augment building lighting in such a way as to create a sense of unity and proportion between architecture and Nature as well.

It is essential to keep in mind that all of this can be done with practicality in mind as well as aesthetics. Our experts will help you in two very important ways create an outdoor lighting system that not only makes your client’s property look better, but also make it safer. We can perform a systematic photometric analysis of the site and generate a design schematic that itemizes all necessary footcandle requirements and fixture locations. We can then supply you with motion sensor lighting controls that will allow you to integrate outdoor security lights into the landscape lighting system. Our many years of experience working with landscapers have taught us some very unique methods of hiding transformers and fixtures so that all an intruder would see when approaching the property is a sudden wall of apparently sourceless light that appears to spring suddenly up from the ground.

Enhance Your Garden Surroundings With Landscape Lighting

Sunday, July 19th, 2009
Peter Finch asked:

If you have a garden, yard or walkway that you intend to light up you may consider landscape lighting.

It enhances the beauty of your house and landscape around it, be it a garden or a yard or a walkway. This innovative art of lighting adds an elegance that usually compliments the natural look of the landscape.

Often it is used to produce an array of brilliant effects by highlighting a unique aspect of the house, be it the entryways, shrubs or other features. It is in the process of developing into an art, much like interior designing and gardening.

What are the benefits of landscape lighting?

- Beautification of the house and surroundings – Brightening up of outdoor leisure areas like swimming pools, gazebos and patios – Provides a sense of security by lighting up walkways – Provides you a sense of gratification and peace of mind.

What are the various kinds?

You have a variety of options to choose from:

- Low voltage. If you are really interested in conserving energy, you may opt for low voltage landscape lighting. It will enhance the beauty of the house and the yard without exhausting energy resources.

- Solar. This is a natural method of conserving energy. Solar stores energy from the sun during the day. At night, when it is dark this saved energy is used for lighting.

- Outdoor. You also have the regular options lighting the outdoor as well.

Do all the lights and equipments look the same?

Well, variety is the keyword again. Most landscape lighting equipments are intended to compliment the natural look of the yard. You have the option of choosing from a tulip light, a bell light, a pineapple light (our Hawaiian friends believe in welcoming people this way) or a mini lantern light. You can have a path lighter that can enhance the look of the walkway as well.

How do I acquire it?

Designing an elegantly lit yard may not be a very easy task. Soliciting professional advice would ensure an elegant and safe solution. The Internet can lead you to a large number of professionals who are experts in this field.

What should I be aware of?

Safety is very important. It is always wise to seek the advice of a professional and ensure that you use safe and energy efficient landscape lighting.

You also need to be aware of light pollution and the havoc that it may cause to your surroundings and the environment. Misused or misdirected light as a result of inappropriate application of outdoor lighting usually causes Light pollution. Light pollution wastes natural resources and pollutes the environment by generating needless electricity. It harms nocturnal wildlife. Moreover, it can cause accidents as misdirected lights can perilously glare in the eyes of people walking by or driving past.

Smart and conscious application will add that much desired dramatic effect to your house and surroundings. So if you would like to compliment the beauty of your natural landscape or draw attention to the designs in your landscape, opt for landscape lighting and enhance the beauty of your home.
